Sales Tax Update: Local and Statewide Trends
Ventura’s sales tax receipts for January–March 2025 were 1.3% higher than the same period in 2024, with actual sales activity up 2.4%. Growth was strongest in business services, industrial sectors, casual dining, and new motor vehicle sales.
Notable sector gains included casual dining (+1.3%), building materials (+3.8%), and business services (+9.2%), while service stations (-5.8%) and family apparel (-3.2%) saw modest declines.
Statewide, sales tax receipts rose slightly (+0.34%) after eight quarters of decline. The autos-transportation and building-construction sectors showed the strongest rebounds, reflecting demand for affordable vehicles and building improvements, especially in wildfire-affected regions.
