This project represents a key milestone in the revitalization of one of Ventura’s most treasured parks, delivering a modern and thoughtfully designed play space for the Pierpont Bay community and surrounding areas.
In 2022, the original playground was removed due to structural deterioration after years of exposure to seaside conditions. Plans were immediately made to replace the equipment with a more resilient design using traditional wood materials, better suited for the coastal environment.
The new playground will include nine play structures such as net climbers, swings, see-saws, tot lot structures, and a larger main play structure. Additional improvements include new benches for seating and replacement rubberized surfacing for safety and accessibility.
“This playground was truly shaped by the community,” said Parks & Recreation Director Stacey Zarazua. “Thanks to input from the Marina Park Playground Subcommittee—comprised of members from the Pierpont Bay Community Council, Pierpont neighbors, members of the Parks and Recreation Commission, and City staff—we were able to create a thoughtful and engaging design that reflects the needs and wishes of the neighborhood.”
The playground project was thoughtfully coordinated to follow the completion of VenturaWaterPure’s Ocean Outfall project, a key element aimed at meeting legal requirements and environmental regulations while providing a sustainable water supply of up to 20 percent of purified recycled water annually.
“Marina Park is a treasured place for families, and I’m excited to see it transformed with this new playground,” said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “This project is a testament to our community’s vision, bringing back a resilient play space that will last for years to come.”
The playground is anticipated to be completed this summer. Learn more at
