Applicants Sought to Serve on Ventura Council for Seniors

The city of Ventura is accepting applications for the Ventura Council for Seniors (VCS). The volunteer advisory group advocates for and improves the lives of the city’s older adult residents.

Applicants must:

  • Be a city of Ventura resident, age 60 or older.
  • Be available to attend monthly meetings, 4-5 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Ventura Avenue Adult Center, 550 N. Ventura Ave.

The City Council will also appoint two VCS members to represent Ventura on the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) Advisory Council.

These representatives attend countywide meetings 9-11 a.m. every other month on the second Wednesday, starting in January, at the VCAAA’s RiverPark office in Oxnard.

Members play a key role by:

  • Advocating for the needs of Ventura’s older adults
  • Sharing countywide resources and senior-focused initiatives from VCAAA
  • Welcoming residents and providing updates at monthly VCS meetings

“The Ventura Council for Seniors is a vital voice for our city’s older adults,” said Mayor Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “This is a meaningful opportunity to serve and ensure Ventura’s senior residents remain informed, connected, and represented.”

Applications are accepted year-round at www.cityofventura.ca.gov/VCS. For more, contact Janine Cobian, recreation supervisor, at jcobian@cityofventura.ca.gov or call the Ventura Avenue Adult Center, 805-648-3035.
