Then, on Wednesday, January 22, 4:00 to 5:00 pm at Avenue Library learn about Beneficial Insects: How to Attract Them to Your Garden. Did you know that California has 1,600 types of native bees? Learn about the importance of beneficial insects and why you want them in your garden. At Hill Road Library, Master Gardener Terry Garman will also present a “Garden To Table” Event Series A project of Ventura County Library, Food Share Ventura County and the California State Library.

In the January session, “From Soil to Sprouts,” Terry will share basic growing techniques as well as tips for planning your edible garden and choosing the right plants for your space. Hill Road Library, Tuesday, January 21, 5:00 to 6:00 pm.

The February session, “Growing Leafy Bounty Year-Round,” will focus on planting various greens suited for the local Ventura climate, season extension methods, soil preparation, managing common diseases and pests, and harvesting tips for continual production. Whether you are a brand-new or experienced gardener, you’ll learn the skills necessary to transform your yard into an affordable, edible oasis. If you are looking for books about gardening, please check out the Ventura Friends of the Library Bookstore, 2nd Look Books, in E.P. Foster Library. Bookstore hours are Monday through Saturday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sundays, 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Ventura Friends of the Library’s next large Book Sale will be on Saturday, January 25, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Vons at Telegraph and Victoria.

The Ventura County Library is partnering with Interface Children & Family Services to host a series of presentations during Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month. “Labor Trafficking 101,” a community awareness presentation, is designed to inform the community about human trafficking and labor trafficking along the central coast and identify helpful services and resources. Participants will also learn how to recognize individuals who may be at risk for labor trafficking and identify indicators of labor trafficking. Presentations will take place at the Ojai Library on Tuesday, January 14, at 6:00 pm; at the Fillmore Library on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:00 pm; and at the E.P. Foster Library on Tuesday, January 28, at 5:00 pm. The E.P. Foster presentation will also include a screening of the documentary film Trafficked In America.
