Funded by a $1.9 million grant from the California Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program and an additional $322,000 from Fund 18 – Parks & Recreation Improvements, the project also received significant community support. Local skateboarders contributed $10,000 through fundraising efforts to help expand the 30-year-old skatepark.

“The Westpark Skatepark is a true reflection of what happens when a community comes together with passion and purpose,” said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “From local skaters who helped shape the design and raised funds, to the many voices who shared their ideas, this project was built by and for Ventura. We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible new space that welcomes skaters of all ages and skill levels.”

This project significantly increased the park’s size from 3,200 square feet to 20,000 square feet, making it the largest skatepark in Ventura County, and one of the largest in the regions of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties. Additional improvements include enhanced landscaping, public art, and upgraded lighting.

The City’s first-ever design-build contract was awarded to Grindline Skateparks, a Seattle-based firm with over 20 years of experience and a portfolio of over 300 skateparks worldwide.
