The California Department of Education has named Pacific High School a 2025 Model Continuation High School, recognizing its commitment to providing at-promise students with exemplary academic programs, social-emotional support, and career readiness opportunities. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced that 74 schools statewide received this prestigious designation for their efforts in creating a supportive learning environment tailored to students who need flexible pathways to graduation.

“Today, we celebrate 74 commendable schools for their tremendous efforts as alternative campuses of learning,” said Superintendent Thurmond. “The priority of our Model Continuation High Schools is to give students more than a diploma. The teachers and administrators aim to provide students with a student-centered approach that meets their diverse academic, social, and emotional needs and opportunities to explore options beyond high school, preparing students for the future whether they choose to pursue further education or join the workforce.”

A Safe, Supportive, and Student-Centered Environment
Pacific High School, part of Ventura Unified School District (VUSD), provides a personalized educational experience in a smaller setting where students receive individualized attention and access to a broad range of academic and social-emotional resources. The school integrates academic instruction, social-emotional learning, and schoolwide initiatives to foster a strong sense of belonging and student success.

Innovative Programs and Student Support
Pacific High School’s approach to education includes:
• Flexible learning options, including credit recovery programs, independent study, and Saturday school to help students stay on track.
• A comprehensive homeroom structure, where students engage in social-emotional learning activities, English/language arts, and career exploration.
• A strong emphasis on mental health, where students can access wellness counseling, relaxation tools, and emotional support.
• Career and technical education (CTE) pathways, equipping students with skills for post-graduation success.
• A dedicated and highly qualified staff, fostering strong teacher-student relationships that encourage academic and personal growth.

The school’s efforts in building community connections are also notable. Programs like the Interact Club, in partnership with the Rotarians of Ventura County, provide students with meaningful community engagement opportunities. Additionally, the senior buddy program, led by the Associated Student Body (ASB), pairs students with senior citizens in Ventura, promoting intergenerational relationships and civic responsibility.

“Pacific High School is more than just a place for credit recovery; it’s a community where students feel seen, supported, and empowered,” said Pacific High School Principal Gibbs. “This recognition as a Model Continuation High School reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.”
