On Thursday, September 18th, local father and volunteer Sebastian Villanueva was honored with a life-changing gift: a donated vehicle from Concours Motors, a Ventura auto shop known for its annual Wheels to Shine initiative. Each year, the program awards one vehicle to a local community member who exemplifies service, resilience, and generosity. This year, Sebastian stood out among more than 250 nominations.
Sebastian was unknowingly nominated by his 11-year-old daughter, after the family came across the Wheels to Shine announcement on Facebook.
“They were sitting around as a family one night and saw the ad pop up,” said Patrick Rivera, General Manager of Concours Motors. “Sebastian said, ‘I can’t think of better recipients than you two girls. All the things you do and give back to the community, you should nominate each other.’ What he didn’t know was that his daughters had already decided – no one was more deserving than their father.”
Sebastian’s impact on the community is wide-reaching. He volunteers with the Sheriff’s Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), supports efforts to aid unhoused populations, and organizes community events designed to bring dignity and joy to those in need. From hosting BBQs and providing school supplies for underserved children, to creating “Mental Health Wellness Tuesdays” in his neighborhood, Sebastian’s heart for service is undeniable.
Despite being a father of five and facing financial hardship – including being unable to repair his current vehicle – Sebastian continues to give. He’s opened his home to strangers, provided emotional support to those struggling, and contributed to his faith community by helping the sick and unhoused, even when it meant stretching his own limited resources.
“It’s not just what he does,” Rivera added. “It’s who he is. His character, his humility, and his love for his community made him stand out. Giving him this car is a small way to give back to someone who never stops giving.”
