Narrative: On the above date and time, fire units were dispatched to a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived within 4 minutes of dispatch to find a 5-story live-in hotel building with smoke and fire conditions coming from one of the units. Due to constant training and planning for this type of fire, crews were quickly able to utilize the building’s standpipe and keep the fire to the room of origin. During fire operations, a single victim was found deceased.

In total, 94 rooms were searched, and 10 residents were assessed for medical issues. No residents needed to be transported to hospitals. When the fire was declared out, residents were allowed to re-enter most of the hotel; except for one complete floor and a small portion of another floor. Residents whose units are near where the fire occurred are being sheltered by Red Cross until the Ventura Building and Safety Department advises it is safe to preoccupy.

Ventura Fire units were assisted by Ventura County Fire Department, Oxnard Fire Department, Ventura Building and Safety and the Ventura Police Department. Due to HIPAA we are prevented from disclosing an individual’s protected health information (PHI).
