Students can get started at Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges in about 15 minutes when the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) launched its new enrollment platform, CCCStart, on Oct. 8.
The Ventura County Community College District is part of the 116-campus California Community College system and serves approximately 30,000 students annually. Its three colleges – Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura – offer degrees and certificates, transfer pathways to four-year colleges and universities, career technical education and co-curricular campus activities. VCCCD is among the first districts in California to adopt CCCStart, which is expected to replace the statewide CCCApply system by June 2027. Led by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, the transition aims to modernize enrollment, expand access, improve the student experience and strengthen fraud prevention.
“Community colleges are built around access, and that should be reflected from a student’s very first interaction with us,” said VCCCD Chancellor Rick MacLennan. “CCCStart makes that first step simpler and creates a clearer, more welcoming path into college, whether a student is coming to us directly from high school, returning after years away or pursuing new skills for their career.”
Rather than presenting every prospective student with the same application, CCCStart asks about students’ goals and tailors questions to their needs. High school students exploring dual enrollment, adults returning to complete degrees and workers seeking noncredit career training will each receive a more personalized enrollment experience.
The platform also reframes the process from applying to enrolling, reinforcing the community colleges’ commitment to providing educational opportunities for everyone ready to learn.
“Access isn’t just about opening doors – it’s about making sure every student who walks through them knows they belong,” said Joel Diaz, registrar for Oxnard College. “When we remove barriers for first-generation and returning students, our entire community grows stronger.”
CCCStart also strengthens safeguards against fraudulent enrollment, helping ensure classroom seats and financial aid reach eligible students. Students can verify their identities online through ID.me or the DMV Mobile Wallet, or in person at their college. For more information, visit vcccd.edu.
