The Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra launches its 23rd season with Season Opener – Bold. Brilliant. Revolutionary., a concert of groundbreaking works that forever changed orchestral music. Join CHICO on Sunday, September 28 at 3 PM at Ventura First United Methodist Church, 1338 E Santa Clara St, Ventura.
The program features Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony, remarkable for its seamless structure connecting four movements into one continuous journey, and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, a rare masterpiece that pairs piano, violin, and cello with orchestra in a daring reimagining of the concerto form.
The “Scottish” is the first symphony to be written without breaks between the four movements, foreshadowing the cyclic form of the Late Romantic period. Beethoven’s Triple Concerto is the first of its kind since the Baroque concerto grosso form, and intertwines the solo trio and the orchestra in new and innovative ways.
