The Canine Adoption and Rescue League (CARL) Boutique Thrift Store welcomed U.S. Rep. Salud Carbajal for a visit on April 1, 2026, offering a tour of the store and an overview of its community impact.
During the visit, CARL representatives highlighted how the thrift store gives back to the community. In one example, a veteran who had been hospitalized returned home to find his residence had been broken into and many essential items stolen. The CARL Boutique Thrift Store provided him with dishes, cookware and clothing free of charge to help him get back on his feet.
In another instance, the store assisted a woman experiencing homelessness by providing blankets and towels to help her stay warm at night, also at no cost.
All proceeds from the thrift store directly support the rescue dogs cared for by the Canine Adoption and Rescue League at its kennel. Funds generated by the store help cover operating expenses and ensure the dogs receive proper care until they are placed in permanent homes.
Carbajal also learned that the CARL Boutique Thrift Store and the CARL Pet Care Center serve as the organization’s primary sources of funding. The Canine Adoption and Rescue League is a nonprofit rescue that receives no government funding and relies on donations to continue its work.
Through shopping, donating or volunteering at the CARL Boutique Thrift Store, community members help make it possible to save the lives of dogs in need of homes.
The store is located at 2750 E. Main St. in Ventura, next to Smart & Final.
