  • Report #: 25-47495

Narrative: On July 31 at about 8:30 am, a Ventura Police patrol officer observed Steven Bohannan riding a motorcycle on Sherwin Avenue toward Ventura Boulevard. The officer recognized Bohannan as being wanted in connection with a prior grand theft investigation and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Bohannan failed to yield and fled at a high rate of speed, recklessly operating his motorcycle. Due to the danger posed to the public, officers did not pursue him. A Ventura Police motor officer later observed Bohannan continue to drive recklessly in the area of Seaward Avenue and Thompson Boulevard. Moments later, the officer witnessed Bohannan cause a collision between his motorcycle and a truck, which caused Bohannan to be ejected from the motorcycle.

As the motor officer attempted to detain him, Bohannan fled on foot, running across multiple lanes of traffic. A coordinated search ensued, involving multiple units. During the search, Bohannan entered several private yards and temporarily hid in one until being discovered by a homeowner, prompting him to flee once again. After approximately one hour, officers located and apprehended Bohannan. During the initial attempt to stop the suspect, the motor officer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The officer has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Bohannan was arrested on the prior Grand Theft and faces numerous additional felony and
misdemeanor charges, including felony evading, resisting arrest causing injury, hit and run, and prowling. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail. A review of Ventura County Superior Court records shows that Bohannan has prior convictions for Burglary, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Grand Theft of a Vehicle.
