Narrative:
On July 22, 2025, at about 4:21 pm, the Ventura Police Department Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a witness who observed an attempted kidnapping of a child. Ventura Police Patrol Officers responded to that location and learned the following.
The suspect, Trinity Stewart, was observed by several witnesses loitering in the alleyways of Hummingbird Street acting suspicious. She was observed peering into apartment windows and she possibly stole a package from a nearby apartment.
The 10-year-old female victim was playing with friends in the area and observed Stewart holding the victim’s sweatshirt in her hand. Stewart then began chasing the victim, who ran towards her apartment. Stewart caught up to the victim and grabbed ahold of her. The victim kicked Stewart multiple times but was unable to escape her grasp. The victim’s mother heard the struggle and ran to the victim. The mother became involved in a physical altercation with Stewart in order to free her daughter.
Stewart fled the area after being confronted by the victim’s mother. Multiple witnesses kept an eye on Stewart as officers were responding. Witnesses eventually led officers to the Post Office on Grand Avenue where they detained and ultimately arrested Stewart. Stewart was arrested for attempt kidnapping and child endangerment and booked at the Ventura
County Jail.
The victim was extremely frightened by the incident; however she was not physically injured.
