The City of Ventura invites community members to attend a community meeting on Thursday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. at the Museum of Ventura County, 100 East Main St. Participants will learn more about the planned replacement of the Main Street Bridge over the Ventura River. Spanish interpretation will be provided. This project is a significant infra-structure upgrade that will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and increase accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to review project details, view proposed plans, and engage with the project team.
The Main Street Bridge serves as a vital link for both traffic and recreational use, connecting the community to key destinations, including an interchange with U.S. 101. The bridge has provided reliable service for decades, but with aging infrastructure, the need for improvements has become clear. Thanks to over $5 million in grant funding from the California Department of Transportation, the City is moving forward with the design of a much-needed upgrade. The new bridge will feature wider shoulders and sidewalks to enhance pedestrian access, a dedicated Class I bike lane for safer cycling, and a new round about at Peking Street and Main Street to improve traffic efficiency. Additionally, the replacement will incorporate enhanced coastal views, ensuring that the scenic beauty of the area is preserved and improved.
Beyond these visible improvements, the new bridge will also meet modern safety standards, making it more resilient against high river flows and natural wear. A key priority during construction will be to maintain continuous pedestrian and bicycle access to minimize disruptions to the community. “The Main Street Bridge Replacement Project is a crucial investment in our city’s infrastructure,” said Public Works Director Charlie Ebeling, Public Works Director for the City of Ventura. “This project will not only improve
safety and accessibility but also enhance the overall experience for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. We encourage community members to join us at the upcoming meeting to learn more and share their input.”
Community engagement is an essential part of the project development process, and the City encourages all interested residents to attend this meeting, ask questions, and provide feedback. For more information, visit www.cityofventura.ca.gov/MainStreetBridge.
