CAPS Radio KPPQ-LP Celebrates 8 Years as Ventura’s Only Non-Commercial, Public Radio Station

By Ventura Breeze Staff –

Recently CAPS Media’s KPPQ-LP Radio celebrated 8 years of delivering non-stop, award-winning original and specially curated programming and entertainment to Venturans and a worldwide audience of listeners.

KPPQ-LP FM 104.1 belongs to the entire community and is Ventura’s only non-commercial, community radio station. KPPQ’s state-of-the-art studio, located in the CAPS Media Center, reaches more than 100,000 people in Ventura and tens of thousands more by streaming worldwide, broadcasting 24/7 at 104.1 FM, and streaming worldwide on myTuner radio and capsmedia.org.

Led by Elizabeth Rodeno, KPPQ’s radio station manager and CAPS project manager, the KPPQ team produces more than 500 hours of original entertainment each year delivering an eclectic mix of programming for KPPQ-LP’s enthusiastic and growing audiences.

Said Elizabeth, “As one of the founders and station manager of KPPQ I am thrilled to be part of Ventura’s community radio station as we celebrate its 9th year on the air. Since 2017 when we flipped the switch on the only non-commercial community radio station in Ventura, producers have sat behind a microphone and shared their voice and the voice of Ventura County across the globe. I’m really proud to see how our station has grown and thrived these past 8 years and I look forward to the next decade of serving and entertaining Ventura.”

Elizabeth and the CAPS team have trained more than 200 Ventura residents in the professional skills required to become successful radio hosts. With small group and individual training, every KPPQ broadcaster is not only skilled to host the program but also to be the studio engineer, recording and editing their own programming, which is all part of the rewarding experience of creating their own personally crafted programs.

Community groups like the Loma Vista 4-H have participated in radio and podcasting workshops in the studio, and Ventura City officials have utilized the studio for podcast episodes of Ventura Voices and other community announcements.

KPPQ’s current roster of dedicated and talented hosts includes Kathleen Good, Nadine Piche, Doc Ventura, Lily Carnaghe, Bruce Sheldon, Marian Castro, James Marcus, Mary Labrie, Drs. Q & Cole, and more. Week in and week out, KPPQ-LP’s ever-growing cast of creative talent produces innovative and engaging programs including interviews and stories with local artists, leaders, and organizations, plus a wide variety of music programs and much more.

Anybody interested in learning more about KPPQ-LP, including touring the studio and how to become a KPPQ host, is encouraged to attend a CAPS Radio Orientation on the first Thursday of the month. To sign up, go to https://capsmedia.org/radio or contact Elizabeth Rodeno at radio@capsmedia.org.
