Assemblymember Bennett Secures $2 Million in State Funding for Ventura’s Main Street

Assemblymember Steve Bennett has secured $2 million in state funding for Main Street Moves, the City’s program overseeing the closure of Main Street between Figueroa and Fir Streets and California Street between Main and Santa Clara Streets to vehicle traffic since 2020. The closures have transformed the area into a pedestrian-focused downtown destination. The program continues to guide improvements that enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for residents and visitors.

The funding is designated to help transition the street closure from an ad-hoc pandemic setup into a fully realized, safe, and permanent civic infrastructure. This includes installing crash-rated, semi-permanent bollards, mobile vehicle barriers, and aesthetic planters to protect pedestrians and structure permanent outdoor dining parklets.

Steve Bennett represents the 38th Assembly District, which includes Camarillo, Fillmore, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, and Ventura. He is chair of the Budget Subcommittee No. 4 on Climate Change, Natural Resources, Energy and Transportation.
