Fox Fine Jewelry presents Purely Portraits

Galina Richardson’s art is featured at Fox art show.

Fox Fine Jewelry presents Purely Portraits, an art show with Galina Richardson and Sandy Treadwell until January 2022.

Galina Richardson was born in Russia, where she worked as a translator. Once Richardson moved to the US, she worked in graphic design and then for the FBI. After eleven years, she left to focus on her art. Now, she creates breathtaking portraits in oil, pastel, watercolor, and charcoal.

Raised in New York, Sandy Treadwell moved to Ojai to be closer to family and enjoy the more rural environment. He discovered he had a real talent and affinity for art. He continues to explore his love of “living landscapes” through his work in charcoal. Treadwell often works life-size and is an Ojai Studio Artist.

Focus on the Masters Arts Archive & Library receives California Arts Council Grants!

Donna Granata interviewing Porfirio Gutierrez for his oral history which is preserved in the archives.

Focus on the Masters (FOTM) is thrilled to announce that California Arts Council is supporting our work through two separate grants: their Impact Projects Award and Arts & Cultural Organizations General Operating Relief.

FOTM’s Impact Projects Award partners Learning to See Outreach with Diversity Collective, Ocean View School District and Black Lives Matter to facilitate the design and exhibition of large-scale art installations that celebrate diversity and unity. As with all our Learning to See (LTS) endeavors, this program stems from the inspiration of the artwork and life stories of FOTM documented artists from our community. Four artists, who identify with the community participants, will lead the creative processes, providing present day role models who have exceled in pursuit of their passions.

The Arts & Cultural Organizations General Operating Relief will assist with FOTM’s Arts Archive & Library’s general support systems such as computers, software, and the preservation of our unique collection of primary source material. The archive is the foundation of the organization and requires ongoing care and preservation regardless of the pandemic.

FOTM’s public programing was suspended during the pandemic and adapted to on-line programing wherever possible. This greatly reduced earned and contributed income from monthly events, in-school classes/tuition, annual fundraising gala, and smaller fundraising activity normally held throughout the year. With the limited resources available, FOTM prioritized its LTS outreach to assist the schools with the challenges of a virtual classroom.

FOTM is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), art appreciation program that documents, preserves, and presents the works and lives of accomplished contemporary artists.

Museum of Ventura County acquires John Nava’s Big Platter

The Museum of Ventura County is pleased to announce and unveil its newest acquisition, John Nava’s Big Platter. A gift of Laura and William Peck, the 27-foot-long tapestry spans the north wall inside the Martha K. and Martin V. Pavilion, where numerous events, pop-up exhibits, and activities occur year-round. Big Platter will remain in the Pavilion as a permanent display.

John Nava, who lives in Ojai, studied art at UC Santa Barbara under Howard Warshaw and completed his graduate work in Florence, Italy. His work is found in numerous private, corporate, and public collections throughout the United States, Europe and Japan, including his creation of the Communion of the Saints tapestries for the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles.

“There is a long tradition in art of the Arcadian image — Arcadia as the setting of a harmonious image of people within nature,” explains local artist, John Nava. We find ourselves immersed in this beautiful nexus of shore, sea and sky completing the composition. I wanted to make Ventura’s own Arcadian image.”

The Museum has two locations – the main museum is located at 100 East Main Street, Ventura. The Agriculture Museum is located at 926 Railroad Avenue, Santa Paula. Both museums are open Thursdays through Sundays, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – venturamuseum.org.
