Weary anglers returned to the docks after three days of serious halibut fishing as boats made their way back to Portside Marina. Coolers and bags filled with the weekend’s catch were carried to the weigh-in, where participants eagerly awaited the results.
When the final fish was weighed, Sean Harvey claimed first place with a 37-pound halibut. Chuck Hosack finished second with a 30-pound catch, followed by John Jensen in third with a 28-pound halibut.
A total of 66 anglers participated in this year’s tournament, the largest turnout since the event began three years ago. Created by Portside Marina Manager Scott Estes, the tournament has grown each year and organizers plan to continue the annual tradition.
Family members and spectators gathered to enjoy a barbecue while raffle prizes, including fishing rods and sunglasses, were awarded throughout the afternoon.
Although halibut was the featured catch, anglers also landed yellowtail and white seabass during the tournament, while smooth-hound sharks were spotted offshore.
The weekend’s weather added to the adventure. Friday brought warm temperatures, showers and tropical-like conditions from a southern storm system. By Sunday’s weigh-in, the humid weather gave way to a refreshing rain shower as the event came to a close.
