Rufio was found as a stray with repeated stab wounds. He was taken immediately to our medical department who took care of his numerous injuries. The vet staff report that he has been a great patient, is very sweet, tolerant and loves butt scratches.  Our other staff report that he is a sweet boy.

We haven’t gotten him in playgroup yet, but he has met some other dogs through the kennel door and seemed to be okay with them. If you have another dog at home, bring them along for a meet and greet.

Just look at that smile! We think it’s time for this sweet 2-year-old boy to have a home where he is loved and protected.

Vol. 14, No. 08 – Jan 13 – Jan 26, 2021 – Forever Homes Wanted

Hi, I’m Scruffy, a 2-year-old Chihuahua X who was one of 16 dogs rescued from a single family home. We all were not socialized and I was in the worst shape with a broken jaw. It’s been repaired and I’m waiting for my special someone to make me a part of their family.

I’ve been in two foster homes since I’ve been with C.A.R.L. In my first foster home I lived with other dogs and made tremendous progress and I was doing really well. I’d run around the house and I’d try to get the other dogs to play with me. I’ll need a playful and easy-going brother and/or sister in the home who will not only play with me but show me the ropes too.

My second foster mom calls me Sunny. Scared and unsure of my new foster mom and new foster home, I would cower in a corner or hide in my crate. My crate is left available to me so I always have a safe place to be, but I decided rather quickly that I prefer being outside of the crate and now I don’t want to go in it. I’m fed in the crate so I feel comfortable should I need to be put in it to go to a vet appointment.

If you have the love and patience that I need as I continue to learn to trust, fill out an application to meet me. CARL CARL Adoption Center-call 644-7387 for more information.

Shogun, our short-legged German Shepherd, spent his whole life with one owner and is going through a huge change now being at the shelter alone. Here at the shelter he has hung out with other dogs without incident so he may be happy living with another mature, calm dog. Shogun enjoys going on walks and rolling around in the grass and would love a belly rub once he knows you. He has a lot of typical German Shepherd characteristics and is protective of his home so he is looking for a home without kids and someone experienced with German Shepherd or guardian-type breed characteristics. Hi: I’m Desi, a gorgeous almost 11 year old Catahoula/American Staffordshire Terrier mix who loves treats and walks on the beach. I was adopted into what I thought was my forever home, but it wasn’t meant to be. I became too possessive of the daughter. I felt I needed to protect her from everyone.

I was one of many dogs rescued from a raid in El Rio. Those days long behind me, I’m waiting for someone to come and take me home.

I’m house trained and would do best in an adult only home or a home with older respectful children. I don’t seem to care for any males. I don’t want to be left alone, so I need someone who is usually home or can take me along too. I’m not a fan of small female dogs or cats and need to be the only dog in the home. I know some basic commands but could use some leash work. I tend to pull and I’m very strong.

I’m grateful to be given a chance to know the true meaning of being a cherished member of a loving family. Canine Adoption and Rescue League C.A.R.L.CARL Adoption Center-call 644-7387 for more information.

Nugget ()A763600 is one of several adoptable guineas pigs currently as VCAS. Guinea pigs make great pets. They live for several years, so you can enjoy them longer than most other rodents. They have different personalities and are very vocal, making it easy to know their individual identities and get attached. They are fun to play with and very entertaining. Most guinea pigs even like to cuddle. Ventura County Animal Services – Camarillo location – 600 Aviation Drive

I’m: Murray, a 10-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier / Great Dane X who was rescued from Animal Services. I’ll always be grateful to the people who rallied me to get me saved and to C.A.R.L. for accepting me into their program. I’m an older gentleman who just wants a warm cozy bed and a family who will love and take care of me for the rest of my life.

I’m a happy boy who is very friendly. I enjoy being outside in the yard being loved and getting treats of course. My back legs are a little gimpy, but that doesn’t stop me from getting around and running around.

If you have room in your heart and home for handsome me, please fill out an online application to meet me. CARL Adoption Center-call 644-7387 for more information.

Rosie was left behind when her owner moved. Understandably and not unusual for a little Chihuahua, Rosie is terrified in the kennel environment. Our staff has been spending time with her and found that with a little understanding and love, Rosie comes out of her shell. She loves getting on a lap, being petted and belly rubs. Rosie walks well on a leash and just needs someone who will give her a day or so to relax in a home to feel safe. Ventura County Animal Services Rosie A762484

Hi: I’m Rocco, a handsome 7 1/2 year old Chow mix rescued from a shelter. I was an owner surrender due to my owner moving and I couldn’t go too. I was described by the shelter as being very sweet, very friendly and a favorite of volunteers. I’m grateful to C.A.R.L. for rescuing me before it was too late.

I’ve been lucky enough to be in a foster home since April 2020 where everyone is basically home all day. They’ve created an Instagram page just for me. rocco_rockz. They say I’m rather stiff in my back legs and I can’t get in the car by myself or get up a full flight of stairs. I get to go on two walks a day. I need a home with no younger children.
I’m dog reactive and would do best as the only dog in your home. I’m easier to control on walks with a harness. I need a home with no cats. I’m also a creature of habit so will do best with a set routine.

I hope you’ll open your heart and home to wonderful me. CARL Adoption Center-call 644-7387 for more information.

As you can see, Todd is patiently waiting for his forever home! Five-year-old Todd came to the Humane Society of Ventura County after being rescued in the field by our Humane Officers as part of a cat hoarding case. Despite the situation he came from, Todd is one of the most affectionate cats we’ve ever met! He absolutely loves to be petted, especially chin scratches. We also think he may be part dog, as he would do anything for a good belly rub! Todd is the perfect companion pet for anyone that is looking for a lovable lap cat.

The HSVS is performing adoptions by appointment only due to COVID-19. If you are interested in adopting Todd, please visit our website and click the orange “Let’s Get Started” button to fill out an adoption appointment request to meet him.

Cat and kitten adoptions are half-price, only $60, now through the end of November! All adoptions include the first FVRCP shot in the series, a leukemia test (if age allows), rabies vaccine (if age allows), a medical exam good for up to three days from participating veterinarians, deworming, implanting an identification microchip (registration extra), spay or neuter surgery if necessary as well as a safety collar, ID tag, and a cardboard carrier.

Hi: I’m Bolt, an active 2+ year old German Shepherd / Siberian Husky X who is in need of a new home as my owner thinks I would do best in a larger home with a yard.

I enjoy playing and running. I would make a good running partner as I go for a 4-mile run every day. I was attacked by a Husky and a Dobie at a dog park. Since then I do not like or get along with big dogs. Little dogs are ok and I’m ok with children. There is a 5-year-old in my current home. It is unknown how I would do with a cat.

I’m fearful of new people and will need time to get to know you. I’ve had formal training and know basic commands. I’m starting to develop separation anxiety and my current owners are working with me on this.

If you have room in your heart and home for lovable little me, please fill out an application to meet me. Canine Adoption and Rescue League CARL Adoption Center-call 644-7387 for more information.

Vol. 14, No. 02 – Oct 21 – Nov 3, 2020 – Forever Homes Wanted

Hi: I’m Tazzy, a 1+ year old beautiful Rottweiler who is in need of a loving home. I was rescued from VC Animal Services and I’ll always be grateful to the Starr Group for sponsoring me and to C.A.R.L. for taking me into their program. I know I’m in great hands and they will find me my forever home.

While at VCAS I exhibited some unusual behavior. I’d start to bark/growl at ‘phantoms’. They think it may be due to ear canal agenesis and I may be over stimulated by light/shadow and/or sound. I may be only able to hear muffled sounds or vibrations.

I’m very social to people, but it’s unknown how I’d do with children or cats. I was introduced to a couple of other dogs at VCAS and after sniffing one another, we chased each other briefly and playfully. I do bark through the fence at dogs who pass by. So for now it’s still unknown how I’d do with another dog.

If you have room in your heart and home for little sweet me, please fill out an online application to meet me. Canine Adoption and Rescue League C.A.R.L.CARL Adoption Center-call 644-7387 for more information.

Can you see yourself with a fun, active, smart dog? Coral May would make a wonderful companion for long walks, hiking and even running. There is a catch though. You need to be a strong handler and train her to listen to you.

Some of our more experienced volunteers have been working with her using a “Haulti” face collar and have made great progress already. Since Coral May is so smart you will also want to help her learn commands. She  already knows sit, stay, shake and lay down. Make an appointment to meet this beautiful girl.
